Landscaping the Entrance Median
Barry Alter spoke to A & N Landscape. Arrangements have been made to have the landscape debris removed from Venetian Shores by A & N Landscape and deposited at Veolia’s transfer station. This removal is at no additional charge to VS.
Barry requested A & N Landscape to place some low profile rocks in the front median.
Barry had some inquiries from homeowners about the style of trimming in a particular median bed. This was discussed. Due to the fact that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder, it is not always possible to completely please all homeowners’ ideas of what is esthetic. With this in mind, the Landscape committee is open to all suggestions and will do the best possible to please.
Website and group e-mailing
Now all Directors of the VS Board will have the ability to send group e-mails through the website. Diane Ziomek made an information sheet which is a step by step guide on how to do this. Diane e-mailed this to each director. If a director needs additional help please contact Diane.
E-mails to Directors are now set-up to go from the Venetian Shores Website www.vsha.net directly to the individual director. It is no longer necessary for homeowners to have multiple e-mail addresses for each Director. Suzanne Sigel has updated the new member information to reflect these changes.
Crime
The bench at the entrance way was initially destroyed and then subsequently stolen. This bench was special donation in memory of someone dear. Anyone who may have information, please contact VSHA at www.vsha.net. The Board will look into options to replace the bench.
A locked, screened porch was broken in to and fishing rods stolen while the resident was inside sleeping. Please keep valuable items locked up and out of sight if possible. Most of the crimes in VS are crimes of opportunity. If something looks suspicious contact the sheriffs’ department at 305-853-7021.
Crime Watch was discussed.
Entertainment
Nancy Cavallaro will pick possible dates in the fall and then winter. It was discussed to consider planning for the next event, saving a date and there would most likely be a minimal fee and reservation.
VS Newsletter
The next newsletter is June. Secretary, Suzanne Sigel is responsible for the newsletter and will have it ready for the June issue. Anyone that has ideas or information, direct it to Suzanne. Directors will be needed for collating and stuffing envelopes to get the newsletter ready for mailing.
There was discussion about including a list of homeowners in the newsletter that have not paid their dues to remind them to join. This largely supported by dues paying members, however some find it objectionable.
There was a motion made by Sergio Ayala to send a letter to remind/encourage homeowners to become a member of VSHA. Nancy Cavallaro seconded the motion. There is a letter included in every newsletter mailing to non dues paying homeowners asking them to join. If we send an additional letter it would cost more and the cost of this comes from funds of dues paying members. It was decided that when we will send the June Newsletter, we will not include the non paying homeowner list this time and we include a request to join the VSHA. If this is not as effective as the public list of non paying homeowners, then we will consider it again in the future.
Islamorada Village
Public vs. Private Roads: Jim Bellizzi, represented by Jim Lupino has filed a suit against the Village of Islamorada claiming that the roads in Venetian Shores are private.
Sewer/ waste water treatment is still undetermined. A Bill passed the legislature which would among other things mandate central sewers for Monroe County by 2015. The Bill has not, as of this date been signed by the Governor. The Village has stopped moving forward until more is determined. The assessment which was already paid is being discussed with the possibility of repealing, refunding or modifying it to be more equitable. Currently there is a major thrust to fix North Plantation Key. There is discussion about privatizing the designing, building and running of a sewer system.
New Business
Suzanne Sigel made a motion to purchase two new doggie waste stations and would then install and maintain them at no additional expense. The motion was accepted by Tom Bray and seconded by Barry Alter. Motion approved.
Nancy Cavallaro was approached by someone representing a non profit organization promoting a green initiative. Nancy e-mailed all the Directors this information. It was the Board’s decision that we do not endorse any specific organization. Any organization or business is welcome to utilize our Venetian Shores Newsletter for advertising.
Next Meeting will be June 15, 2010 at Diane Ziomek’s home at 6:30 pm.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Tom Bray and seconded by Barry Alter. Motion approved.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 pm.
Respectfully Submitted,
